CVCC Men's Basketball Looks to Bounce Back Under Coach Scott in Year Two
After a challenging 2024-25 campaign, the Pirates showed signs of growth and managed to secure a berth to the ACCC tournament, where they were defeated by Marion Military.
Sophomore forward Jared Days-Jean, a Second Team All-Conference selection, headlines the list of players returning. Days Jean was the only double-digit scorer, averaging 11 points and 11 rebounds per game. He’ll be joined by Omar Johnson, Kamron Carryl, Talan Woodham and Jonathan Holmes, all expected to play a role in the team’s success this season.
With a talented mix of returning players and new additions, Scott is confident this team can get the Pirates back on track.
“I’m excited about this season,” Scott said. “We wanted to add depth and size in every position, I think we’ve done that. Now, we have to bring these guys together and see if we can get them all on the same page.
Scott welcomes 12 new players, including three locals standouts from Central High School; 6’2 guard Willie Townsend (Emmanuel College transfer), 5’10 guard Dezmond Williams, and 6’4 guard/forward Ty’Jor Cooper.
“I think we’re going to play a lot of guys, 11 or 12,” Scott added. “That’s what I’m excited for as a coach. Hopefully we can just keep coming with fresh bodies and guys who come in and doing what they do.”
Armed with confidence, depth and fresh faces, the Pirates feel they are ready to make a statement this season. They will open the season at home on Tuesday Nov. 4th at 5:30 pm against Gordon State, who narrowly defeated the Pirates in Key Hall last year on a 3-point buzzer beater (71-69).
